Maternal Child Health
Child Health and Family Support Program - This program offers home visiting and health care support for children from birth through 10 years of age. Families and children are enrolled in the program for parenting and health education, child development, lactation and nutrition counseling and to assist families in accessing community resources such as Healthy Kids insurance. The program also provides outreach services such as school and office immunization clinics.
Good Beginnings - The Good Beginnings program is for families who are expecting a new baby or who have had a new baby. The program offers levels of services designed to meet the needs of individual families. The prenatal home visiting project is part of the Home Visiting NH network and is designed for families to enroll in their pregnancy and continue until the child is one year of age. The program provides home visits from a parent educator and a maternal-child health nurse that focus on health assessment and education, child development and safety, and prenatal and infant care. This program uses the Parents as Teachers curriculum (PAT). PAT believes that parents are the child's best first teacher and promotes early learning activities for babies. This program also helps families to access resources in the community such as WIC, Healthy Kids, and family planning services.
Good Beginnings Maternal/Newborn visit- Good Beginnings also provides newborn and postpartum home visits by a maternal-child health nurse after a new mother takes their baby home from the hospital. The visit focuses on newborn care, health assessment of Mom and baby and breastfeeding support from a certified lactation counselor.
Good Beginnings volunteer program offers trained volunteers to new families to visit once a week for the first three months. The volunteers provide companionship; respite, a listening ear and a lending hand in those wonderful and trying first three months.
School Smiles - This program is a school based community oral health program for schools in the area. The program targets children in grades K-3 and provides oral health classroom education, oral health screenings, cleaning and fluoride application and sealant placement. The program is designed to identify children who have no access to private dental care. The program is coordinated by a registered dental hygienist.
Our staff is certified in the Parents As Teachers Program and is an affiliate of the Parents As Teachers National Center.
